21 June 2011 - BBC visit Yachana High School in the Amazon
BBC World Class recently visited the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador as part of the Schools World Service. While they were there, they filmed at Yachana Technical High School. Yachana took part in Achievers International last year when they were partnered with Sunbury Manor School in Middlesex, UK.
BBC World Class wanted to find out what is was like for young people living in the Amazon Rainforest. It is fascinating to see how young people live and go to school in such an astonishing landscape. You can see the article here on the BBC World Class blog, and see the videos here

During the partnership Yachana students sent Ecuadorian crafts to Sunbury Manor in the UK. Pupils at Sunbury sold the goods at the Young Entrepreneurs Market on London’s South Bank and returned the profit to Yachana.
“We sell typical products from the Amazon that send a message of how nature is and how the indigenous people use nature without destroying it. We export bracelets, earrings and necklaces, all of them made from materials we find in the forest.”
