25 March 2009 - Report from Luella High School

Luella High School, Georgia USA

Ja’mar Crockett, the president of D.R.E.A.M, introduces us to their Achievers company.

At the beginning of the year our class elected me as president of our company. The candidates gave speeches that had to be prepared the night before. This was a big moment. We even had some administrators that came to support us, such as our principal. Days later our company was in full swing when we created a logo and voted on the name to be Distinguished Responsible Entrepreneurs of American Marketing.

We partnered together with the Beacon Boys in Blackpool, England. We got to business as soon as possible and began to exchange gifts between each other to establish a relationship. In our gift box we sent an American and Luella flag as well as some of our personal business cards. After numerous emails back and forth we finally talked to one another using Skype. It was a great way for us to break the ice with each other. They had seen the commercial that we made, put together by our creative genius Brandon Miller.

The Beacon Boys are at an all business school and meet together on Thursday. Lee Warburton is the president of his class in Blackpool. The boys are between the ages of 12 through 14, but are very good business men. We immediately sent them a product catalog so that they could decide as to what they wanted to purchase from us and a PowerPoint about life in Georgia.

Some of the products we offered are Reese's peanut butter cups, Hai-Chu candy from Japan, Air heads, sour straws, and Twix. Other products that were in the catalog were jewelry, which people around the school have purchased, bounce balls, tie bags, whoopee cushions, and picture frames. Our jewelry makers also went to the craft fair at Luella Elementary School. The reception was big and we still have great business relations with the elementary students at Luella.

Near Valentines Day our company purchased teddy bears, cheeky devils and frogs, from the Beacon Boys. These were a big ticket items for our school as we sold out of them in two days. We are currently in the process of trying to purchase bunnies to go along with the Easter theme that are still in the works. This gave us an idea we had that was a great success earlier in the year. A school wide pictures with Santa to help generate revenue for our company. This was a big success that was enjoyed by our school and our administrators.

One of the activities that we also have coming up is our Atlanta Motor Speedway trip where each student made $75. Last time the race was in town, our class came together and sent about nineteen people to go and help at the speedway. We provided ushering services.

Our latest adventure is the clothes drive. The clothes are going to people overseas that are in need of clothes. A deal has been worked out for us to receive sixteen cents per pound we collect. We plan to send some of the profits from this endeavor to an Aids orphanage in South Africa to help them purchase a washing machine.

We have partnered not only with our high school, but with the other schools in our near area. Both Luella Middle and Elementary schools have joined in our efforts to send clothes. Also Locust Grove and Hampton Elementary have pitched in to help us. As an incentive, the winning class at each school will have a pizza party that is sponsored by Bucks Pizza. As for the high school, they will have a chicken biscuit party sponsored by Chick-fil-A.

This has been a great learning experience for each of the students this year. We have enjoyed developing and selling products, communicating a trading with the Beacon Boys in Blackpool and are learning how to operate and manage a real business.
