Students inspire at Fair Trade - Trade Fair
Beacon Hill High School’s Fair Trade - Trade Fair took place during FairTrade Fortnight and was a great success. Students from the two Achievers companies at the school gave presentations on their work and presented their products for sale. They were joined by Blackpool Mayor Coun Mary Smith, local governors and business people, as well as students from other Blackpool schools.
FairTrade FairyTale, the girls company at Beacon Hill, promoted their fair trade products and spoke about their partner school in Tanzania. The Beacon Boys had a range of items for sale from their partners in Germany and America, as well as information about their work.

The guests were joined by Liam Rhodes, the successful 19 year-old Managing Director of iFuse Technologies, who became Britain’s’ youngest ever MD aged just 15. He spoke to the students about the importance of the business skills they were learning, as well the need to trade fairly and ethically.
Courtney Thomas, 13, of FairTrade FairyTale said: “It was a good opportunity to spread the word about Fair Trade to other people and other schools. One of the best things about the project is knowing we are helping students in Tanzania to buy things they need. It’s also nice to make people happy by giving them the chance to buy nice things at a fair price.”
Both companies made a good profit on the day by selling to the guests, and the Beacon Boys won the £50 prize in the workshops that followed the trade fair by impressing the judges with their presentation on their company and how they would use the money.
