15 November 2010 - 4 Entrepreneurs Conference in London
4 Entrepreneurs Conference in London
The 4 Entrepreneurs conference was held at the Odeon in Leicester Square, Central London on 15 November 2010. It was the fifth such event organised by European Study Tours and sponsored by Achievers International. Around 800 students from schools across the country attended and were treated to presentations from four greatly successful British entrepreneurs. This event was organised as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Tristam Mayhew, founder of high-wire forest adventure Go Ape!, gave an inspiring talk and also answered several questions from the audience. Mayhew’s memorable piece of advice to the audience was “not to take other people’s advice”. His story was also notable in that his main motivation for starting his business was not money, but rather doing something he enjoyed to the point where he was ready to be “poor but happy”.
23 year-old Natasha Faith, one half of luxury jewellery makers La Diosa, whose jewellery is worn by such celebrities as Kim Cattrall and Naomi Campbell also spoke at the conference and gave a moving account of her life as a carer for her mother. The highlight of her talk was perhaps the story of discovering the inspiration for her jewellery making business in the Aztec ruins of Mexico whilst travelling around the world with her best friend and business partner.
Several students were also given the opportunity to pitch their own business ideas in front of the entrepreneurs. These included a steel washing peg to prevent sheets from flying away whilst drying outside, and a rolling device to prevent shirts from creasing. One particular student was so confident and impressive that Tristam Mayhew said he would not only buy her product if it was in a shop, but would be very happy to invest in her as a person as well.

Overall, the students and teachers at the conference were very enthusiastic and the entrepreneurs chosen to speak were particularly inspiring, each bringing their own distinct personal advice to the budding entrepreneurs in the audience.
